A Line

A Line

by Elizabeth Challinor

How can you be

In the thick of things

And watch

At the same time?

Through the circle in my head

She said

I draw a line

And take a ballet step

Backwards

Always?

Of course not!

Sometimes it's not a step

It's a leap!

And there are other times

When I can't control my feet

They get pulled in by the beat

And the line disappears

Then what?

Do you try to get out?

It depends on the song

I'll stay for a while

If we get along

But the line

Always returns

Eventually

Thick

Bold

Straight

Other times

Thin

Faint

Curved

Into a cheeky grin

Or a compassionate smile

Dedicated to you Bro!
