The more eyes that open the better
Did you know that it is estimated that more than 300,000 babies were taken illegally from their mothers in Spain during and well after the end of the Franco regime? This writing project, Open Eyes (Ojos Abiertos) began as an offshoot from writing my novel Hands Stained with Flour and from my poetry writing in Moon Musings. After visiting the association Sevilla Stolen Babies in October 2021 and interviewing some of its members, I felt that my personal contribution to their cause was writing poems that try to capture the emotions of individual cases to open eyes and touch hearts.
I would like to thank Carmen Lorente Oliva and all members of Sevilla Stolen Babies for welcoming me and Alfonso Cárdenas Castañeda as well as my mother, Conchita Ríos, for their feedback on my poems and for correcting the Spanish!

Después de visitar la asociación Sevilla Bebés Robados en octubre de 2021 y entrevistar a algunos de sus miembros, sentí que mi contribución personal a su causa seria escribir poemas que intentan capturar las emociones de casos individuales para abrir los ojos y tocar corazones.
