Hemorrhoids
by Elizabeth Challinor
You're not going to write about that!
Why not?
Oh come on!
What?
In a poem!
What is there to say?
Eat your fruit and veggies
And anyway
It's inappropriate
Distasteful even
They're extremely painful
So?
We all know that
Do you?
I mean personally?
Look
You can't force me to...
No! Don't force
Rule number one!
Oh come on!
You're loving this aren't you?
There are some topics
You just don't go there
Not in poetry
What if they come to you?
What are you supposed to do?
Ignore them?
No! Deal with them
But just not with a pen
What did you say?
Oh stop it!
You know what I mean
What's the matter with you?
You're warped!
Can't you find other things
to write about?
You're missing the point
Things find me
I don't pick and choose
O.K.
So what do you have to say?
Eat your fruit and veggies
Drink plenty of water
And remember
You have a secret community
Of fellow sufferers out there
You are not alone!
