Like Confetti
by Elizabeth Challinor
Expectation
Perfection
Frustration
Introspection
I was told that my first baby steps were not only applauded
I was also encouraged to take a few more
The determination on my face
Apparently
Painful to see
So
Easy
To blame those and other moments
Born out of good intentions
For my inadequacy
But you know what?
Much more fun
To laugh at myself
Finally!
Lift up my petticoat tails
And run
Barefoot
Shamelessly
Releasing handfuls of playful poetry
Like confetti
Into our hurting world
