Talking of Beauty
by Elizabeth Challinor
"Levin did not like talking or hearing about the beauty of nature. For him words took away the beauty of what he saw" (Tolstoy).
Words may steal
The gift they offer
The beauty
Of describing
Beauty
Recognised and defiled
In the very act of enunciation
Yet
The crystallisation of beauty
In memory, in words
Also bestows
Sweet ripples
Echoes
Of homecoming
Upon our tired aching souls
