The Whisper

The Whisper

by Elizabeth Challinor

Waking up to the whisper

Surging wordlessly through

My body

A silver thread

Pulling me out of bed

Opening me up like an umbrella

Turning my body upside down

Feet in the clouds

Head settled on the ground

Watching

Listening

Feeling

Receiving

Letting go

Of all definitions

Ambitions

Suppositions

Suspicions

Aware they are there

I let them flow

Without judgement

Or attachment

Allowing

Benefit of the doubt

To highlight my hair

Strategic innocence

To light up my eyes

Empathetic pain

To impregnate my veins

With humble gratitude

And responsibility

Anger

A pinch of cheekiness

Litres of love

And a fistful of resistance

Ready to unlearn all that I held dear

To pop my little bubble

To face fear

And learn anew

How to live

With myself and with you

In this cruel, beautiful world
