This is Insane!
by Elizabeth Challinor
I remember
Thinking
I could be put in a hole
Yes
A hole
In the garden
Or a park
In the ground
With only my head
Peeping out
And I’d be O.K.
Happy even
As long as
I could carry on thinking
I used to think
I could think
My way
Through troubles
The answer was there
In a bubble
Grinning
Waiting to be caught
In a thought
And if I didn’t know
The answer yet
Then I had to think
Harder
Faster
Deeper
Quicker
Sharper
Cast out my net
Share more
Talk more
Ask more
I used to think
Until a foot landed on my head
And squashed every thought together
(Don’t worry, no pain
This is only a metaphor
And as they say
Anyway
No pain no gain)
The foot went quickly
On its carefree way
I scrambled out of the hole
Called a friend
And arranged to play tennis
