Underground Conversations
by Elizabeth Challinor
In the midst of the metro
Full of figures sitting in silence staring at invisible stars
Crioulo
Melodious sounds
Punctuate the air
Fricatives abound
Nobody seems to notice or care
But for the three domestic workers who share
In the safety and comfort of their mother tongue
Complaints of exploitation
Each with a story to tell
One woman to proclaim
To whoever is willing to listen
Underground
In the postcolonoial metro of the metropole
